The Dragon Boat FestivalOn the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional lunar calendarThis festival is also called Duanwu Festival, which has been held annually for more than 2000 years.It’s the first Chinese festival elected in World Intangible Cultural Heritage(世界非物质文化遗产).
The focus of most celebrations involves eating zongzi(吃粽子), drinking realgar wine(喝雄黄酒), and racing dragon boats(赛龙舟).

There are many legends circulate around the festival but the most popular is the legend of Qu Yuan. The festival commemorates the patriotic poet(爱国诗人)Qu Yuan, and also acts as a chance for Chinese people to build their bodies(强健身体)anddispel diseases(祛除疾病).
Qu YuanHe was a Chinese scholar and minister to the King from the southern Chu during the Warring States Period(战国时代). His works are mostly found in an anthology of poetry known as Chu Ci. His death is traditionally commemorated on the occasion of the Duanwu Festival.
